iGPS Announces Agreement with
Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc.
Intelligent Global Pooling Systems (iGPS), announces
that, beginning mid-May, Dole Fresh Vegetables will begin shipping its products on iGPS’
all-plastic pallet pool with embedded RFID tags. Dole Fresh Vegetables is the latest company to use
iGPS’ innovative, 100% recyclable plastic pallet. Located in Monterey, CA, Dole Fresh
Vegetables joins Imperial Sugar, Pilgrim’s Pride, and Martori Farms, among other top-tier
brands, which have switched from wood to plastic pallets. The iGPS all-plastic pallet meets all
GMA requirements, weighs 30% less than typical multi-use wood pallets, is UL 2335 certified
fire-retardant, and 100% recyclable.
“Using the iGPS plastic pallet is part of Dole’s commitment to continually providing
our customers with value-added supply chain solutions that enhance our service offering,”
says Robert Engle, Vice President of Supply Chain at Dole. “This pallet is a leap forward for the
supply chain and, equally important, is further evidence of our commitment to acting in an
environmentally responsible manner.”
“The addition of such a highly-respected
brand as Dole Fresh Vegetables is yet another validation of our superior value proposition. We are
honored that Dole Fresh Vegetables has put its trust in us,” says iGPS CEO Bob Moore.
Routeware Launches RFID Verification Solution
for the Waste Industry
Routeware, a designer and manufacturer
of hardware and software for the waste industry, announces the availability of a fully-integrated RFID
verification solution designed to transform the way waste haulers collect and dispose of waste and
recyclables in the U.S. The new solution takes advantage of Routeware's expertise and
Texas Instruments' (TI) low frequency (LF)
products and systems engineering.
High-quality automated data is at the heart of Routeware's RFID verification solution. Through the
use of TI's RFID LF technology, the solution provides more accurate, thorough, and real-time digital
reporting, which ensures that haulers receive better data for improved customer service and
responsiveness. It also helps free drivers to concentrate on their routes and to operate more efficiently
and safely. For their part, waste-industry executives receive deep and meaningful visibility into their
business operations. Additionally, the RFID verification solution can improve productivity in the waste
collection and disposal process, and help all parties involved understand their true costs and margins.
Finally, it can increase consumer and community satisfaction, and contribute even more to sustainability
efforts. The net take-away is profitable, better-run businesses built for the long-term.
"Our work with Texas Instruments will help usher in a next-generation digital overhaul of the
hauling business,” says Robert DeKoning, CEO of Routeware. "Waste industry managers,
operators, dispatchers, and drivers have told us that RFID is their number-one priority, and now they've
got it. Looking ahead, we believe this technology will help transform the industry from utility provider to
value creator.”
"With more than a decade of experience using our RFID low frequency HDX technology in waste
applications in Europe, Texas Instruments has witnessed the benefits haulers receive from deploying
RFID,” adds Rafael Mena, Business Development and Applications Engineering Manager of
Asset Tracking for Texas Instruments RFID Systems. "From building efficient programs to
creating lasting relationships with consumers and communities, the same opportunities are unfolding
here in the United States.”
Routeware's RFID verification solution incorporates TI's LF RFID tags, which are affixed to trash containers
and dumpsters, and readers and antennas, which are installed on collection trucks. TI's fundamental LF
design is based on half-duplex (HDX) RF communication, which provides optimum read range, accuracy,
and multi-tag reading capability. Unlike full-duplex frequency modulation, HDX allows the reader to pause
and listen during the tag's response, ensuring a stronger radio frequency signal. Consider that the motor
and the control lines of the garbage truck can interfere with the reader and tag, and the need for a strong
signal becomes apparent.
Routeware's hardware and software links onboard truck data with the back office in real-time. As each
transaction is completed, it's automatically recorded into the Routeware DMS 5000™ onboard
computer and then integrated into Routeware BackOffice and the hauler's back-office software.
The RFID verification solution offers two core business process benefits:
- Real-Time Service Verification — This helps record precisely when, and from which
container, garbage pick-up and disposal takes place as well as what is actually being collected
and transported. In addition to increasing accountability on the part of haulers, consumers get faster
customer service data and more accurate waste collection bills and recycling credits.
- Asset Tracking — This helps haulers monitor their inventory of valuable containers and
dumpsters, some of which can cost up to $20,000 each. TI's LF RFID tags are especially suited to
this application because they can withstand harsh environmental conditions as well as shock, and
do not require line-of-sight to be read. Besides containers and dumpsters, the solution can monitor
driver and truck activity in the yard, the fueling station or the landfill. This information helps haulers
reinforce safe driving rules, enhance performance practices and improve productivity.
The automated RFID verification solution from Routeware using Texas Instruments' low frequency
RFID is available now. For more information on how the waste industry can benefit from automated
RFID verification, please visit

RF Code Introduces On-Demand Inventory
for an Enterprise’s Servers, Laptops, PCs
RF Code, Inc. announces the availability of an
IT Asset Management (ITAM) solution that automatically collects and consolidates device-specific
location information from active RFID-tagged computers and network devices. Consisting of the
company’s Zone Manager™ location engine and new active RFID tags and readers, the
solution provides real-time tracking, location monitoring, and physical conditional status of critical data
center servers and distributed enterprise assets, including computers, storage devices, network
hardware, and test equipment.
An improvement over traditional asset tracking — now done manually with barcoding or passive
RFID tracking — the new solution gives the customers real-time visibility needed to generate
on-demand IT inventory audit reports. In addition, customers also have the ability to link real-time
equipment data to enterprise information systems to help meet SOX or General Accounting Office (GAO)
compliance. The result is a huge reduction in the time and cost it takes to have a full accounting of all
enterprise physical IT assets. (For an estimated ROI calculation of how much it costs your organization
to track its physical assets, go to www.rfcode.com/roi.)
NCR has recently integrated RF Code’s solution into its TransitionWorks platform. According to
NCR Vice President and General Manager for AIDC Solutions Donna A. Wright: “TransitionWorks
is leveraging RF Code to quickly enhance a business process — in this case, inventory of IT assets.
RF Code has made it easy to take advantage of active RFID information, which enables us to offer
heightened visibility into asset inventory.”
“Manual IT inventory and audit processes divert precious resources from critical business projects
and expose large organizations to an assortment of security and compliance risks,” says RF Code
CEO Mitch Medford.
RF Code is introducing three new active RFID tags for the IT asset tracking market: its new M130 Thin
Tag, designed for tracking laptops and desktop PCs; its wearable M140 Badge Tag, used to locate
employees and match them to their assigned computers; and its M150 Temperature Tag, which tracks
and monitors temperature-sensitive computing assets.
Deployed in combination with RF Code’s Zone Manager software, these new tags automate
enterprise change control processes, enhance physical security programs, and provide on-demand IT
asset audits. When paired with RF Code’s asset tracking solutions for corporate data centers, the
new tags contribute to a flexible solution that empowers enterprise managers with new levels of asset
visibility for their most expensive and sensitive computing equipment. The solution also tracks mobile
IT assets that move outside the data center for maintenance, repair or for end-of-lease decommissioning.
RF Code’s active RFID tags, readers and Zone Manager software is offered for sales through
the company’s network of IT systems integrators, solution providers and OEMs.
