gif CMP, a targeted media and marketing solutions company serving the technology industry, announces the launch of RFID-World.com, an online addition to the RFID World brand. This new website delivers on RFID World's promise to provide C-level executives and system integrators with a comprehensive perspective on the burdening RFID market and equip them with the tools to stay ahead of the learning curve.

RFID-World.com tackles the RFID issues business professionals face deploying RFID technology, ranging from privacy, policy and legislation, business and investments, retail supply chain, asset tracking, military/aerospace, logistics/transportation, and consumer devices. The RFID market has suffered from people not fully understanding ways to use and integrate the technology into their existing channels. By narrowly focusing on how businesses can mesh RFID technology into existing systems, the site will provide expertise and insight into:

  • Protecting brands
  • Curtailing counterfeits
  • Complying with ePedigree regulations
  • Improving sensor designs
  • Integrating track-and-trace protocols

RFID-World already has marquis sponsors: Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions has signed on to be the lead sponsor, with Reva Systems, and Impinj taking the Gold level sponsorships.

"I'm confident RFID-World.com will quickly become the trusted resource for news and information for businesses," says Laurie Sullivan, Site Editor for CMP's RFID-World.com. INGECOM sells its Active Tag technology to Siemens Switzerland

gif Siemens Switzerland has selected the active tag technology from INGECOM as a base to build up its new product line. By this agreement, INGECOM transfers the IP rights and know how to Siemens, but still maintains development and sales rights of the product.

The active tag market is considered as an emerging market in the RFID area. The technology developed by INGECOM and brought jointly to the market is considered as a step improvement as compared to the traditional products found today on the market. “We find this technology suitable for many of our customer bases — particularly for asset tracking and people tracking applications,” says Zeno Staemmer, Business Development Manager at Siemens. “By the acquisition of this technology we are building a product line that shall be globally introduced to the markets.”

The INGECOM technology has been carefully evaluated and benchmarked against competing solutions, including the ZigBee. It has proven to be much more power-effective with a longer reading distance and a greater number of connecting nodes. All those advantages would be useless if the cost of the product was not also in the favor of INGECOM’s technology, and the operating frequency not available as license free worldwide. The connection time is very low and allows for automatic, real-time data transmission of the information, crucial to generate reports and trigger alerts.

“We are very pleased about the collaboration between both companies; the engineers are prepared to work together towards one common target. New applications are emerging with the best knowledge from both parts. This is a key factor of success for a long term relationship and a well positioned product range. With this agreement we have again shown our ability to supply RFID products with features above the average,” says Olivier Desjeux, CEO, INGECOM in Switzerland.

OMRON Expands RFID UHF EPC Gen 2 Inlay Product Range

gif Omron RFID announces the “Scorpion” — the latest addition to its UHF EPC Gen 2 family of RFID inlays. It is designed to seize the growing section of the RFID tag market that demands long read range in a compact form factor, and is scheduled for launch in the North American market in early November 2007.

Measuring 28 mm x 68 mm (1.1” x 2.7”) and covering a wide band of the UHF spectrum (860 MHz to 960 MHz), the Scorpion is a sleek, globally-compatible inlay ideal for a range of applications in retail, logistics, access control, asset management, manufacturing, and transportation.

The Scorpion’s versatile credit-card size allows easy conversion to popular formats, including 4” x 2”, 4” x 6” and 3” x 3” logistics labels for cases as well as ID cards and crate tags. Used to track stock shipments to RFID-enabled stores, for example, Scorpion-powered labels offer a powerful solution to out-of-stock (OOS) situations at retail outlets running special promotions. The new inlay also fits snugly into credit-card sized items such as gate passes and other access control applications.

“Omron understands that our customers have diverse RFID tag needs,” says Masa Kameyama, Omron RFID’s U.S. Division Manager. “In the UHF frequency, we currently offer the globally-compatible Wave inlay for general purpose use, the Loop for robust read performance when applied to RFID-unfriendly materials, and the Ninja for item-level tagging and pharmaceutical applications. Omron developed the Scorpion in response to customer requests for an inlay that offers a read range comparable to the Wave and Loop with global compatibility in a smaller profile.”

Kameyama continues: “With the release of the Scorpion, Omron’s inlay solutions now cover the full range from pallet-, case-, and item-level tagging through to security applications such as access control and asset management. What’s more, all Omron UHF inlays are manufactured using our patented ultra-sonic bonding technology, JOMFUL, for unsurpassed reliability from one of the strongest IC chip-antenna bonds in the industry.”
