Savi Technology’s RFID-GPS-Satcom System Orders Pass 10,000 Unit Mark
Savi Technology received purchase orders totaling more than $3 million from partner, Comtech Mobile Datacom for more than 6,000 Savi active RFID reader modules. This order marks the sale of the 10,000th OEM reader module to Comtech since 2005.
Comtech embeds Savi’s OEM active RFID reader modules into Comtech’s satellite-based Movement Tracking System (MTS) kit atop the roof of the driver’s cab, providing customers with two-way communications to automatically locate, manage, and redirect ground shipments. MTS is used by the U.S. Army to automatically read and relay information of stockpiles at depots or in staging areas by driving MTS-mounted vehicles past RFID-tagged containers and supplies, providing mobile communications to the DoD’s “In-Transit Visibility” network, the world’s largest RFID-based cargo tracking system.
Savi Technology holds a $424.5 million RFID II procurement contract with the U.S. DoD for active RFID products and services. Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation recently announced that it was awarded a new $605.1 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract with the U.S. Army for its Movement Tracking System.
“The powerful combination of active RFID from Savi and satellite communications and GPS technologies from Comtech provides our customers with high-value asset visibility and management capabilities throughout the global supply chain,” says David Stephens, Savi Technology’s General Manager of The Americas. “This fully integrated solution involving multiple wireless technologies has been a win-win-win for Savi, our partners, and our customers.”
“We’ve been delighted by the customer response to the integrated Savi-Comtech solution, which automates and optimizes surface transportation of valuable cargo — whether commercial goods or military supplies — anywhere and at any time in the world,” says Daniel Wood, President, Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation.
Yedioth Information Technologies and PowerID Partner to Market PaperVue
Yedioth Information Technologies Ltd. announces a partnership with PowerID to develop and market PaperVue. Enabling real-time tracking and visibility of paper reels, from mill to printer house, the PaperVue solution has been developed to reduce costs associated with newsprint purchasing, transport, inventory, production control, and complaints processing.
Utilizing PowerID’s PowerR labels, the new solution overcomes the distinct limitations of barcode technologies, the limited performance of standard passive RFID, and the high cost of active RFID. By combining Yedioth Information Technologies’ specially-designed software with PowerR RFID labels, printer houses and their suppliers can now realize the benefits of the first integrated solution for tracking paper reels throughout the newsprint supply chain.
“We are excited about partnering with PowerID,” says Assaf Avrahami, CEO of Yedioth Information Technologies. “After exploring various RFID options, we chose to deploy PowerID hardware at our own print sites. By using PowerID labels and leveraging our knowledge of the print and media world, we can offer print houses and newsprint manufacturers real-time reel visibility and reduced supply chain costs.”
Israel’s leading daily newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, has deployed PaperVue and successfully piloted it in June-August 2007. Read rates were 99.99% and initial indications demonstrate that ROI can be achieved in approximately one year. Following the summer pilot, Yedioth Ahronoth asked its paper suppliers to tag its newsprint reels, and by the end of the year, thousands of PowerR-tagged reels will be delivered and processed by PaperVue.
“PowerR labels have been successfully used by leading paper manufacturers and newspaper printers,” says Erez Kahani, CEO of PowerID. “Joining forces with Yedioth Ahronoth to market PaperVue provides both parties with a unique opportunity to cater to the needs of the newspaper and media markets by offering a solution that is tailored to their specific requirements.”
First Complete Solution for California Electronic Pedigree Legislation Now Available
SupplyScape, Nosco, and Systech International announce the first integrated, seamless solution to address the growing global problem of counterfeiting and product diversion in the pharmaceutical industry. Together with systems integration leader HP, the companies are offering customers an all-inclusive solution framework to streamline compliance with the State of California’s requirements for product serialization and electronic pedigrees, which takes effect on January 1, 2009.
The California ePedigree law requires pharmaceutical manufacturers to create unique identifiers for products, track each product’s pedigree and maintain electronic supply chain records. In addition to the law, wholesalers expect to receive serialized products in July 2008.
The solution will help pharmaceutical companies improve their compliance posture with California’ ePedigree law in an effort to ensure that the state’s drug supply is safe and secure. HP, Nosco, SupplyScape, and Systech provide pharmaceutical and biotech companies with industry-standard components needed to build a complete strategy for serialization and ePedigrees. The solution is designed to help stem the potentially steep revenue losses that can result from counterfeiting.
The solution combines the latest 2D- and RFID-enabled packaging components and systems technology with the leading ePedigree serialization and tracking solutions, and integrates these components within a customer’s existing ERP and enterprise applications.
HP guides the architecture, ERP/WMS integration and project services for the solution, and also manufactures the digital press technology used to print the serialized label and packaging. Nosco creates pre-serialized packaging solutions for the integrated solution framework. SupplyScape delivers the ePedigree data management system and serialization strategy to the solution. Systech brings their packaging-line serialization expertise to the solution framework.
