Welcome Letter from the Director of RFID World
By Rob Keenan, Director of CMP Technology's RFID World Group
Welcome to our RFID World Boston event. At this year's event, we are taking a look at three of the hottest issues shaping the RFID industry — security, privacy, and authentication.
There is no doubt that RFID technology is changing the lives of consumers and the way businesses operate. The pervasiveness of RFID, however, is also opening a new set of challenges on the security, privacy, and authentication front.
The radio frequency technology that serves as the heart of RFID also opens RFID up to potential security breaches for corporations and consumers. Privacy concerns are also on the rise with RFID tags now housing more and more personal information on consumers. And let's not forget authentication. Today, RFID is being touted as a main tool for combating counterfeiting and protecting the brands of pharmaceutical, electronics, and other consumer good companies.
The issues surrounding RFID security, privacy, and authentication have also moved beyond simply being concerns for businesses and consumers. From the U.S. government to state and local governments, RFID privacy, security, and authentication have become the subjects of debate, policy, and legislation.
If you're using RFID in your business, there's no doubt that security, privacy, and authentication issues are a concern. There's also no doubt that RFID World Boston is the event for you.
At this three-day event, we have lined up a first-class set of keynote speakers and presenters from the government, security, pharmaceutical, healthcare, enterprise, RFID industry, and other sectors to help business executives and system integrators grapple with and solve RFID security, privacy, and authentication issues. Our all-star speaker line-up includes: Robert Cresanti of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Patrick Sweeney II of ODIN technologies, Ben Aderson of American Electronics Association, Jim Harper of Cato Institute, Marc-Anthony Signorino of the National Association of Manufacturers, John D. Halamka of Harvard Medical School, and more!
We're excited about our RFID World Boston program. We're also excited that this event will be a part of the Tech Mash event, which co-locates RFID World Boston with the Embedded Systems Conference, targeted at embedded developers and engineers, and the SD Best Practices Conference, which is aimed at the software developers. We look forward to seeing you in September!
