Advanced ID Asia Incorporates
austriamicrosystems' UHF RFID IC

austriamicrosystems (www.austriamicrosystems.com), a global designer and manufacturer of high-performance analog ICs for communications, industrial, medical, and automotive applications, in partnership with Advanced ID Asia (www.advancedidasia.com), announces that Advanced ID Asia has incorporated austriamicrosystems' new AS3990 UHF RFID Simply Gen 2 Reader Chip into its latest product, the PR110 – a handheld reader that extends Advanced ID's successful UHF RFID Reader Product Line.

The PR110 is a portable UHF reader with integrated LCD, backlight, and keyboard. It is available in different colors for OEM customers. The PR110 offers 100mW output power, a 5dBi gain circular antenna, as well as battery operation. Advanced ID's new product is built around austriamicrosystems' AS3990 UHF Simply Gen 2 reader chip, co-developed with IDS, which is the first in a line of a low-power, low-cost, integrated reader solutions, positioned to make their customers' lives easier through the integration of key elements whilst retaining flexibility.

Advanced ID's CEO Gottfried Auer says: "With austriamicrosystems' AS3990, we got the chance to have high commonality in our different concepts covering all the applications from short range to long range. This results in a highly competitive product line which will be completed in the next few months. "

austriamicrosystems' AS3990 is a single chip, Gen 2 UHF Reader IC. Ideally targeted for power/cost-sensitive applications, the AS3990 sports the industry's lowest power consumption and lowest cost bill of materials (BOM). It includes a Gen 2 protocol engine for fast time to market, and is available with an integrated power amplifier to further reduce the BOM. The AS3990's unique programmable features enable a single device that is world-wide shippable. Its simplicity is emphasized with only 32 registers to enable full RF, filtering, and protocol control, while maintaining ease in implementation. The AS3990 is available in QFN 64 9x9 mm package and is specified for 0° C to 70° C.

High-Performance, Industrial-Class
Fixed Reader: the Motorola XR450

Motorola, Inc. (www.motorola.com) announces the new Motorola XR450, an industrial-class fixed RFID reader featuring both bi- and mono-static antenna ports on one platform to protect RFID investments and decrease deployment complexities. This new two-in-one solution provides an ideal high-performance RFID reader for both item-level tracking and more demanding supply chain applications. It is expected to ship beginning in July 2008.

The XR450 is Motorola's latest version of its XR family of RFID fixed reader products and includes new management software and enhanced security features like SSH and SSL support to protect information as it moves across external network interfaces. Additionally, custom applications can be built and hosted on the device, offering the flexibility customers need to accurately read RFID tags in varying environments. The XR family of fixed RFID readers currently supports deployments around the world, including in many countries throughout the European Union, North and South America, and Asia. With the release of the XR450, Motorola now adds certification and country support for both China and South Korea.

The XR450 RFID reader offers customers the ability to select between using four bi-static ports that require dual antennas or four mono-static ports that require only one antenna for transmitting or receiving tag data. Mono-static ports are ideal for real-time item-level tracking, application processing and management, such as in postal tracking or reading pallets of goods at retail stores. Businesses can use the bi-static ports for the highest possible performance in the most challenging RF environments. The inclusion of both mono- and bi-static ports in a single platform allows customers to purchase one reader with the opportunity to utilize either port option – providing greater flexibility to adapt the reader to the intended application and environmental needs.

The XR450 RFID reader is certified to run on both Microsoft Biz Talk Server 2006 R2 and IBM Premises Websphere 6.0 and 6.1. It also supports Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 for hosting customer applications directly on the reader.
