Nordic ID and CAEN RFID Launch UHF RFID Handheld Computer

Nordic ID (www.nordicid.com), a Finnish specialist in handheld computers and data collection, launches the PL3000 Advanced UHF handheld computer with long range UHF RFID reader. This device enables more efficient use of the new RFID technology in the retail, warehouse, and distribution markets.

The Nordic ID PL3000 Advanced UHF handheld computer uses the European radio frequency band with CAEN RFID (www.caen.it/rfid) reading technology, which provides an improved reading functionality. The PL3000 weighs 500 g and its level of power consumption and ergonomic design allows it to be used single-handedly for long periods of time. Nordic ID will shortly be introducing a configurable PL3000 with different powerful CAEN RFID reader modules, which makes the reading distance, even longer for specific application purposes.

The PL3000 has a new Windows CE 6.0 operating system - a powerful processor and memory technology, which improves the usability and security of the handheld computer. Nordic ID has combined powerful data collection, processing, and storing capacity with a variety of wireless communication technologies including WLAN, Bluetooth, GSM, and GPRS. A programming package is available to help system partners develop software applications for the PL3000.

"The amount of RFID applications and demands for reading devices supporting the technology increases all the time," says Atte Kaskihalme, Sales Director of Nordic ID. "Together with CAEN's experience in RFID technology we are able to offer efficient and ergonomic solutions."

"Nordic ID has been the first handheld manufacturer that we have formed an alliance with," says Giovanni Grieco, Marketing Director of CAEN RFID. "With our new reader modules, Nordic ID's product range has been able to grow, offering more choice to customers."

EZReader-HF by Accu-Sort Systems

The EZReader-HF RFID tag reader, claiming to "put the 'easy' into RFID" is available from Accu-Sort Systems (www.accusort.com). The reader operates at 13.56 MHZ, connects directly to Accu-Sort's FAST Monitor system software, and provides user convenience through multiple features.

The EZReader-HF sets frequency and "match" automatically on start up, a previously manual job performed by the installer. As an added convenience, the reader and the antenna store operating parameters for the current installation, so that in the event of a reader or antenna replacement, the new component installs according to the stored set-up parameters.

The reader can be controlled by a host system or used as a stand-alone device, which allows the user to directly hook a sensor into the reader to detect the presence of a tag through hands free and host free identification.

Communication is provided by an on-board Ethernet TCP/IP or Ethernet/IP that connects directly to the FAST Monitoring system software. This software monitors the condition of multiple automatic identification systems throughout a facility, storing operating data in a central database. The system also allows for remote diagnostics capability so it can be monitored from anywhere in the world.

The EZReader-HF reads ISO 15693/14443, ISLI, I*CODE and Tag-it™ formats. It also has an adjustable read range and resists dust and moisture allowing it to be used outside, in industrial areas, or on vehicles. Three different antennas are offered: Medium-Range (5" x 7"), Long-Range (12" x 16"), and Standard (5" x 16").

"The need to fine tune every read point in a facility is over," says Troy Herman, Accu-Sort Manager, North America. "Using the patent-pending 'Easy Tune' feature that comes standard with every EZReader-HF Antenna, fine-tuning read points is as easy as pushing a button. This is the easiest to use RFID reader on the market today."

IF30 RFID Multiple Tag Reader from Intermec

Intermec's new IF30 RFID network reader proves that achieving multiple reads in a high speed environment can be just as easy as single tag identification, regardless of a noisy RF environment.

The IF30 can read tags at conveyor speeds of up to 1,600 feet per minute, and from distances of up to 15 feet. Increased sensitivity allows the reader to pick up weak and otherwise unreadable tags enhancing efficiency within the supply chain. It offers a best-in-class dense reader mode operation that allows companies to add multiple docking doors in close proximity, a built-in power supply, and a powered input/output GPIO circuitry for direct monitoring and peripheral control.

The IF30 is FCC and ETSI certified, and operates in RFID frequency bands 865MHz, 869MHz, and 915MHz. It is supported by Intermec's RFIDeploy Services, which provide site analysis, process analysis, and installation.

Reva Systems, in partnership with Intermec, provided the Reva Tag Acquisition Processor (TAP) infrastructure. This is the industry's first RFID device to combine standards-based data services with location-aware tag data processing and real time-adaptive control for readers. The system is capable of working with large numbers of readers, improving efficiency and reducing operation times. Visit www.intermec.com.
