RFID-Enabled Tool Room for Automated Inventory Control

SAVR Communications (www.savrcom.com) partners with HOLT CAT to bring RFID technology to the tool room. HOLT CAT, one of the largest Caterpillar dealers in the world, will rely on an RFID-based tool room solution to improve inventory control, automate usage record keeping, and provide enhanced theft detection/deterrence. With better security and simplified tool tracking, HOLT CAT estimates that it will save $30,000 in lost tooling per location within the first year alone.

The system features UHF technology and an array of unique Gen 2 tag solutions to accommodate the harsh environment. Project challenges include tagging dirty metal tools in sizes that range from small drill bits to heavy impact wrenches—all will be RFID tagged for easy identification. Employee access is controlled with RFID badges. Data handling and user interface can be a stand-alone function or integrated into existing applications.

Security Solutions From AAID Go the Distance

AAID Security Solutions is now providing Ultra Long Range Asset Tags and Readers, which offer hands-free protection. The adjustable read range offered through this system is the longest in the industry—upwards of 2,000 feet. These tags are primarily used to track assets in the warehouse, hospital, retail, industrial, and military industries.

Standard tag features include "AutoLocate" for real-time, multiple tag inventory control, which can track employees, visitors, and equipment as they move through the facility. The "TamperDefect" feature can instantly detect the removal of a tag from an asset and sends a warning alarm. The tags are also compatible with Wiegand based access control systems.
