Authentication at the Dispenser with Aegate Scanner

Aegate Ltd. is a pharmaceutical authentication service provider working to improve brand protection and patient safety for pharmaceutical manufacturers and pharmacists. Aegate is a strong supporter of drug authentication at the point of dispensing, which it describes as “a secure, centrally managed, real time process where by pharmacists and pharmaceutical companies can be assured of the authenticity status of medicines before they are dispensed to patients.”

The Aegate Scanner is an item-level dual RFID and barcode reader, custom-built and designed for pharmacies to support Aegate’s philosophy. The scanner supports short read range tags suitable for item-level reading of prescription medicines in pharmacies and is compact in size.

In a recent pilot, results showed that the system could instantly stop recalled products, identify fraudulent medicines (counterfeits, stolen, illegally diverted), issue safety notices in real time, reduce picking errors, and automatically check expiry and for close to expiry dates. Intelletto’s RFID MultiPort Companion

When Pfizer piloted its Web-based drug authentication solution on its Viagra product line, the Intelletto RFID MultiPort Companion INT 101-SP was chosen for several reasons as the data collection device to sit at the end of the supply chain—the countertop of the pharmacies.

The INT 101-SP is engineered to integrate RFID and barcode data, allowing the client to get the benefits of both systems without the additional costs of separate systems. It has a unique inboard processor allowing it to perform several functions without any computer support (no operational middleware needed). This intelligence frees it from reliance on the connected computer, so the INT 101 can route the gathered data to any computer that has a USB or a serial port, regardless of its operating system (Windows, Linux, Mac OS, etc.). Installation is a simple plug-and-play, and its footprint is about the size of a paperback book. It can read a variety of tags without reset or changing modes, so it can handle a mixed-tag future. Conveyor Tunnel Readers by TAGSYS

TAGSYS (www.tagsysrfid.com) announces a new line of item-level RFID conveyor tunnel readers, the TAGSYS Multi-Read RFID Tunnels. They offer a read accuracy performance of over 99.99% in asset tracking of RFID tagged articles.

The tunnels use favorably positioned and shielded RFID antennas linked to TAGSYS’ 13.56 MHz Medio L200 RFID readers. Multiple tags can be read as they pass through the tunnel on the conveyor, regardless of the item’s physical orientation. At 30 fpm (standard conveyor speed) the tunnel reader reads as many as 100 tagged items, regardless of whether they are bulked or placed in containers and without having to open the containers.

“RFID enables tremendous efficiencies in the supply chain and the introduction of TAGSYS’ high-performing conveyor tunnel readers once again demonstrate our commitment to enable those efficiencies,” says Elie Simon, CEO of TAGSYS. “The conveyor tunnels give our customers the ability to integrate and deploy RFID into their production and distribution lines with minimal impact and change to existing processes.”

Rugged Reader by Brooks Automation

German RFID manufacturer Brooks Automation GmbH introduces an HF reader from the HF 60 series. Its robust aluminum housing makes it rugged and designed for use in rough environments.

The reader has five antenna connections, making it appropriate for use in applications with several reading points and reducing the cost of integration. The data collected is transmitted though a serial RS232 interface as well as through an Ethernet interface. Accessories include comprehensive Plug & Play antenna solutions that ensure the required reading ranges. The reader has four dual inline package switches for easy interface or test mode setting. It functions independent of a separate power supply, drawing from the Ethernet interface. Brooks also offers the reader with additional input/output ports parallel to the antenna connections.
