Multi-Protocol, HF Reader Modules
Sirit Technologies has made available its Infinity 200 multi-protocol embedded RFID reader, a compact OEM module that integrates with handheld portable data terminals, smart label printers, label applicators, mobile computers, and other OEM devices at an ultra-high frequency of 902-928 MHz. The device connects to the board via a single connector, providing power and bidirectional transfer of serial data at 0 to 3.3V TTL logic levels. The Infinity 200 is additionally equipped with an integrated internal patch antenna or an optional external 50-ohm antenna connection. The device's firmware can be flash upgraded through the serial interface, says the company.
Also new is the Infinity 186/187 high-frequency (13.56-MHz) dual-technology embedded reader module, a single unit that combines a laser scan engine and RFID reader with integrated antenna, used for reading standard bar code symbologies and most 13.56-MHz tags, says the company. Designed to retrofit into industry-standard form factors, the combination of the two technologies into one compact package produces a unified, efficient reader, and simplifies the process of adding RFID tag-reading capabilities to equipment that in the past had been limited to bar code scanning only, such as item-tracking applications, robotics, point-of-sale terminals, vending machines, and medical equipment, say Sirit officials.

Gen 2 Reader Built for Fast Installations
ThingMagic makes available its Mercury 4 RFID reader platform, which the company claims is the only reader available that can read any RFID tag and deliver on every aspect of the Gen 2 specification. With its unique software, the platform enables simple upgrades for new protocols to be rapidly deployed across large-scale installations in a matter of minutes in both fixed readers as well as label printers and handheld devices. As a result, the company asserts, the readers are easily able to accommodate any variant of new RFID standards, enabling customers to never have to manually replace hardware.
