Paxar Offers Guarantee of 100% Read Rate

Paxar Corporation has announced its Smart Label Performance Guarantee, which offers a full money-back guarantee for any labels that prove to be unreadable for users of Monarch Class 1 RFID labels and tags that are encoded with the Monarch 9855 RFID printer/encoder, and users of Monarch's Q-Service for RFID. Paxar says it is conquering the problem of unreadable labels by testing each chip twice and discarding chips with low performance characteristics. When the user runs RFID labels through a Monarch 9855-RFID printer/encoder, the label is tested yet again. If the label fails the test, the printer overstrikes it with an aggressive bar pattern, state company officials. Paxar adds that it will offer a full refund plus an additional 10% for any label returned for inspection that could not be programmed by the Monarch printer/encoder, or could not be read. The company says that its product is superior through the use of its ISO-9001 temperature- and static-controlled production process and in-line twice-tested policy in the factory.

UHF Thermal Printing Platform

Printronix, Inc. has introduced its 5r multitechnology thermal printing platform to North America, as well as Australia, Singapore, and Taiwan, further enhancing the industry's first commercially available UHF multiprotocol RFID printer, says the company. The platform is designed to offer the flexibility of RFID field upgradeability to address future technology needs. Company executives claim that the new platform is based on a 32-bit PowerPC processor equipped with 32 MB DRAM and 8 MB flash, capable of supporting multiple printer languages developed for Intermec, Printronix, Sato, TEC, and Zebra printers. Additionally, says the manufacturer, 5r products offer innovative and unique features such as remote printer management, integrated closed-loop barcode, and RFID data validation. The 5r platform promises greater supply-chain productivity, giving buyers a powerful tool in printing technology upgradeability without having to buy a specially configured printer or a premium-upgrade program, claim company officials. The 5r platform will be upgradeable via free firmware updates and field kits. The offering also enables encoding and printing of various label sizes and inlay designs that have emerged as industry standards, say company executives.

Second-Generation Desktop Printer/Encoder

Zebra Technologies Corporation has debuted its R2844-Z, a second-generation 13.56-MHz RFID printer/encoder. The new offering will replace Zebra's R402 desktop printer/encoder, says the company. The R2844-Z is suited for use for low-volume printing/encoding applications in the express parcel, pharmaceutical, library book and video rental, amusement and entertainment, and medical/healthcare markets. The printer/encoder includes advanced connectivity with serial, USB, and parallel ports, plus optional internal Ethernet. The company states that superior performance and exceptional horsepower can be attained from its Zebra programming language (ZPL) and a 32-bit RISC microprocessor. Other features include programmable print position for flexible transponder placement, flash-upgradeable RFID reader/encoder for new RFID protocols, faster print speed with the SH3 processor, and a compact footprint designed to maximize limited space.
